COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — A Coventry woman is being charged with cruelty to animals among other charges after two emaciated dogs were found loose in the town.

Casey Mooney of 3 lane 3, Mapleroot Village is alleged to have neglected in caring for the animals leading to their condition.

Officers responded to the scene of Helen Drive on April 12 to find the two pitbull-type dogs severely underweight, and their ribs, spines and hips were clearly visible.

They were also suffering from skin infections and hair loss, along with wounds on their face and head and were taken to a local animal hospital.

Mooney responded to Coventry Police headquarters on April 18 for questioning and was charged with two counts of unnecessary cruelty to animals and two counts of care of dogs.

She is due in court on May 15 for arraignment.

The dogs are in the care of Coventry Animal Control and are not up for adoption at this time.
