Cow Chip Festival returns to Dighton

DIGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The annual Cow Chip Festival in Dighton is underway.
The Dighton Lions Club has organized a weekend of carnival rides, music, and cow chips for more than 30 years.
The football field at town hall is divided into “grids” to match a board, which residents can buy a square of.
“We bring in three cows from Bristol [Agricultural] High School, and where they do their business, that person wins money,” Dighton Lions Club Treasurer Debbie Howland said. “First place is $500, then $300, then $200. That’s how it started with the cow chip contest.”
The Lions club said it uses the money raised to fund scholarships and other community improvement projects.
The festival runs through Sunday.
