UPDATE: Cranston carjacking suspect faces a judge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The man suspected of a violent carjacking last week in Cranston faced a judge Monday.

20-year-old Matthew Hernandez of Providence faced multiple charges including first-degree robbery, assault on a person over 60-years-old, domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct.

He was ordered held without bail and was issued a no contact order with the victim in the case.

The carjacking and assault happened last Friday on Pontiac Avenue.

The 70-year-old victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, but he’s expected to recover.

Hernandez is expected to be arraigned in court Monday.
