Residents evacuated from Cranston house fire

CRANSTON, R.I. – Cranston officials responded to a report of a house fire at 1:34 a.m. on Christmas Day.
Upon arrival, the multi-family home on Standish Avenue had visible flames to the first floor.
The first police officers arriving on-scene forced entry to alert the residents who were unaware of the fully involved fire in their home.
Seven residents and several cats were removed from the four apartments. One resident of the first floor had jumped through a glass window, causing severe lacerations to his arms. No other injuries were reported.
At least eight people in all were displaced, according to neighbors.
The house was destroyed.
