Cranston man accused of shooting dog in head, claims he didn’t ‘feel safe’ having it around children
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston man is accused of shooting a dog in the head earlier this week.
Police said Anthony Devone, 37, admitted to shooting his dog Tuesday and leaving it behind a dumpster near a Family Dollar in Cranston.
Investigators said they were able to track down the 37-year-old using a chip that was in the dog’s collar, which listed his address.
Devone was charged with malicious injury to or killing of animals, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of firearm prohibited, and firing in a compact area.
In Kent County District Court Friday, prosecutors said that Devone told investigators he didn’t “feel safe having the dog around his children.”
He was released and ordered not to have any contact with animals.
