JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston man has defeated the world record for most squats in less than 24 hours.
Joe Reverdes, a personal trainer at A&D Fitness in Johnston, completed a total of 16,064 squats in 22 hours.
The previous record was 15,939. Reverdes broke that by 125 squats.
Reverdes said his motivation to keep going was his family. He had photos placed on the ground beneath him, and family and friends filled the room throughout the 22 hours. His wife kept count of the squats.
“It’s my family that drives me, so watching my wife with her thumb just counting, my grandchildren around…I had a picture on the bottom with all the little moments that we shared. Whenever I knew that I wanted to quit, I’d look down and there’s that picture,” said Reverdes.
Reverdes is already training for his next challenge. He wants to beat the record of 288 squats in under five minutes. He hopes to complete the challenge two months from now.
