Cranston man facing 7 charges after domestic assault incident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Grand Jury returned an indictment Wednesday afternoon charging a Cranston man with seven domestic assault related charges.

According to court documents, 25-year-old Matthew Cunha is charged with one count of first-degree domestic sexual assault, two counts of domestic strangulation, two counts of domestic simple assault, one count of failing to relinquish a party line and one count of vandalism.

Documents further allege that the acts happened in the city of Cranston on or around January 15 of this year. The Cranston police department conducted the investigation.

Cunha is scheduled to be arraigned on August 16 in Providence County Superior Court.
