PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston man has been sentenced in a DUI crash that seriously injured his 10-year-old son and another passenger in Cranston in 2019.
Glenn Teolis, 52, was sentenced to 25 years, with 15 serve at the ACI, a $10,000 fine, five-year loss of license post-sentence and alcohol counseling and treatment.
Teolis was found guilty of two counts of DUI resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of felony reckless driving.
He was also convicted of reckless driving in 2002 and 2008.
The crash occurred on Onley Arnold Road in Cranston, where Teolis was driving with his son and a 21-year-old co-worker.
Teolis took his son and the passenger to multiple bars in East Greenwich where he drank multiple alcoholic beverages, which was witnessed by staff.
During the drive from the last bar, the passengers told Teolis to slow down multiple times, which he refused.
He reached speeds of 100 mph on Route 295 and drove in the breakdown lane to pass other vehicles.
At a high rate of speed, Teolis reached a curve on Onley Arnold Road and lost control of the car.
It went off the road, crossed a driveway and struck a large tree which it wrapped around.
According to vehicle sensors, the car was going 75 mph in the 25 mph zone.
Teolis was determined to have a blood alcohol count of .125.
“With this sentence, I am glad to see the defendant was held accountable, as this serious incident was completely avoidable,” said Colonel Michael J. Winquist of the Cranston Police Department.
