A Cranston man was sentenced Thursday for a 2012 sexual assault in Providence.
25-year-old Andre Marizan was sentenced in Superior Court to 40 years with 25 to serve, and the remainder suspended with probation.
Marizan was found guilty of first degree sexual assault in January of 2015 after a four day trial.
On August 18th of 2012, Marizan sexually assaulted the victim, a longtime friend, when she was physically helpless and mentally incapacitated.
After the assault, the victim had a sexual assault kit performed at the hospital, where the DNA was later determined to match that of the defendant’s by the Department of Health.
Marizan is ordered to have no contact with the victim and must undergo sex offender counseling, as well as complying with sex offender registration and notification requirements.
