Cranston man sentenced to up to 10 years for motor vehicle homicide of retired state trooper

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol Count District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said a man who was accused of killing a retired Rhode Island State Trooper and another man in a crash in 2023 will serve up to 10 years in prison.

52-year-old Joseph Pompei was charged with motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and leaving the scene, death resulting.

Pompei had caused a crash on Route 95 North in North Attleborough in August 2023 that resulted in the death of retired 61-year-old Corporal James Griffin.

58-year-old Randall Ricketts was also killed in the crash.

Pompei then left the scene of the crash before police could arrive, and was later arrested.

He was sentenced to six-to-10 years with five years probation.
