Cranston Police arrest 3 suspect allegedly tied to ‘South American Theft Group’

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Cranston Police Department said it arrested three men allegedly connected to a South American Theft Group on Oct. 1.
36-year-old Sergio Rodriguez Lopez, of New Jersey, was charged with attempted breaking sand entering, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, felon in possession of a radio scanner, and fugitive from justice out of Danbury, Connecticut for larceny.
49-year-old Jorge Cajamarca Pena, of New York, was charged with attempted breaking and entering, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, and felon in possession of a radio scanner.
19-year-old Felipe Quitian, of New Jersey, was charged with attempted breaking and entering, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools.
Police responded to Uxbridge Street around 6:30 p.m. for reports of suspicious activity involving a man taking photos of houses and a men emerging from bushes before entering a vehicle.
Police surveilled the vehicleand arrested the three passengers.
A search of the vehicle allegedly found:
- 5 cell phones
- 2 black face masks
- 2 small flashlights
- 1 monocular
- 1 package of zip ties
- Various tools (screwdrivers, pliers, pocketknife)
- High-capacity USB power bank/charger
- $21 U.S. currency
- Assorted car keys
- Assorted clothing (hoodies, T-shirts, jackets, hats, sneakers)
- Tan Nike Jordan backpack
- Black Adidas backpack
- Gucci cross-strap purse
