A Cranston car stop led police to a large seizure of heroin. Just before 11 p.m. on Jan. 3 Cranston police attempted to pull over a black BMW on Princess ave. for committing traffic violations and have a suspended registration.

The vehicle took off and police followed it to the parking lot of Farmington Terrace Apartments on Farmington Ave. The driver and the passenger attempted to exit the vehicle ignoring the officers. The officers called on the men to show their hands and the driver attempted to reach back into the vehicle.

The passenger was holding a brown paper bag against his stomach. Police ordered the man to drop the bag. When police investigated the bag they found several plastic bags of what was discovered to be nearly half a pound of heroin.

The suspects have been identified as 34-year-old Luis Marte and 26-year-old Luis Fernandez both of Cranston. The men were also discovered to be in possession of $3,200 in cash and 3 cell phones.

A later search of the men's homes uncovered a 12 gauge pump action shotgun, 116 grams of heron and 55,000 individual baggies.

Both men are being held without bail at the ACI.
