Cranston Police identify drowning victim, investigation ongoing

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Cranston Police have identified the victim pulled from the swimming pool by first responders on Linden Avenue as Ernest Saraiva, age 89, of Linden Avenue, Cranston RI.
“The investigation continues into this tragic accident and there are no immediate signs of foul play at this time. We express our condolences during this difficult time to the Saraiva family,” said Major Todd Patalano with the department.
Cranston Police responded to a possible drowning at the home around 5:30 Saturday night, according to officials. Police say when they arrived on scene, they found Saraiva floating face down in a swimming pool in the backyard.
According to Patalano, emergency personnel immediately jumped into the pool, removed Saraiva, and began performing CPR. They continued life-saving measures while transporting the victim to R.I. Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased just after 6:00 p.m.
