CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) _ Cranston police are naming the woman found in a burning house Friday evening.
Col. Michael J. Winquist, the city’s police chief, issued a news release Saturday identifying 32-year-old Aliss Collins as the victim discovered by firefighters in a third-floor apartment.
Collins, a pregnant mother, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. Police said Collins lived at the apartment with a roommate.
The death is being treated as a possible homicide.
Winquist said firefighters were suspicious about the condition of Collins’ apartment, where the fire was contained.
Police are looking for a black male, approximately 240 pounds, wearing an orange or red hooded sweat shirt and black shorts.
The man was witnessed leaving the house and running down the street.
