Cranston Police Investigating a Fatal Bicycle Crash

CRANSTON, R.I. – Cranston Police Officers responded to the intersection of Western Promenade and Park Avenue at approximately 9:45 AM Tuesday for the report of a male reportedly struck by a vehicle.
Officers determined that the male subject, identified as Sunkashka Soch, age 18, of 93 Cass Street. Providence was operating a bicycle when he came into contact with a trailer being towed by a dump truck.
According to witnesses, Soch was travelling at a high rate of speed on his bicycle as he entered the flow of traffic on Park Avenue.
Without stopping, Soch crossed over the west bound lane of Park Ave.
As Soch entered the eastbound lane, he struck the side of a heavy trailer which was being towed by a dump truck.
Joseph Gonsalves, age 61, of 74 Iroquois Road, Warwick was identified as the operator of the dump truck
The impact caused severe injuries, and Soch was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
The fatal accident is remains under investigation at this time.
