Cranston Police Officer arrested for Simple Assault

CRANSTON, RI (WLNE) – A Cranston Police Officer has been arrested by Rhode Island State Police for one count of simple assault.
Andrew Leonard, 45, was arrested following an investigation requested by Cranston Chief of Police Col. Michael Winquist.
State police say they were asked by Winquist on March 27 to investigate a “use of force incident” that occurred within the Cranston Police Department.
The investigation’s findings led to the arrest of Leonard on one count of simple assault, state police said.
Leonard was arraigned Monday and released on personal recognizance.
He is due back in Kent County District Court on Sept. 16.
