The Cranston Police have moved into an apartment complex in their city.

Police announced the opening of the Knightsville substation Tuesday, which is right on the first level of the Knightsville Manor apartment complex in the west end.

Officers assigned to that area will be able to access the substation, which has a virtual connection to the same databases at Cranston Police Headquarters.

At the substation, police will be able to coordinate community outreach and heighten security for the 230 apartment residents and their neighbors.

Colonel Winquist, Chief of the Department, commented, “The addition of this satellite office fits perfectly into my vision of decentralizing police services to afford the public more convenient access to our resources, while continuing to strengthen our relationships within the community we protect and serve. I want to publicly thank Cranston Housing Director Elaine Woloohojian for her generosity and partnership, as well as members of my Department to include Captain Vincent McAteer and Sergeant Jeffrey Chapman, who expended great effort to bring this plan to fruition. ”

Plans are in the works for another location in the eastern section of the city.
