Cranston Police release bodycam footage of officer-involved shooting

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston Police have released bodycam footage from one of their officers who fired their weapon after stopping two individuals for suspected shoplifting.

Cranston Police Officer Kayleigh Cooper, a three-year officer of the Cranston Police Department, fired a single round at the car of  Michael Campagna and Megan O’Brien after Cooper performed a motor vehicle stop.

In the video, Cooper asked both Campagna and O’Brien to step out of the vehicle in which O’Brien is heard saying, “just drive.”

Cooper was later taken to Kent Hospital for injuries to her foot.

Campagna and O’Brien, 24 were ultimately arrested at the JFK T stop in Boston yesterday.

Campagna was charged with felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer and several other charges.

O’Brien was charged with felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer, aiding and abetting an assault on a police officer and other charges.

Both suspects already had existing warrants for shoplifting, according to police, and are waiting to be arraigned.
