Cranston Police say suspect arrested after stabbing victim four times

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Cranston Police Department said a suspect was arrested after allegedly stabbing a man on Tuesday.

32-year-old Devan Tallo will be charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, attempted breaking and entering, commission of a crime of violence while in possession of a knife over three inches, and resisting arrest.

Cranston police said just after noon, officers responded to Aldrich Avenue for reports of a stabbing, where they discovered a victim on the ground with stab wounds to his neck and abdomen.

Police said they also found two men restraining Tallo, as well as a butcher knife in the area.

According to police, witnesses told officers they saw Tallo attack the victim.

Cranston police said while officers took Tallo into custody, they used a taser due to the defendant resisting arrest.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and police said he is in stable condition.

Tallo was taken to the hospital to treat a hand laceration.

Preliminary investigation shows that the defendant attempted to enter the home while the victim and his daughter were inside, according to Cranston police.

Tallo then searched through the trash behind the home, and was confronted by the victim.

Cranston police said during the confrontation, the two were walking along Aldrich Avenue when Tallo allegedly stabbed the victim four times with a large butcher knife.

Two people working nearby witnessed the stabbing and “immediately intervened,” restraining Tallo until police responded to the scene, according to Cranston police.

Cranston police said Tallo will face his charges after being released from the hospital, as well as face court proceedings for violating bail from a 2020 felony assault case and probation from a 2023 simple assault on a police officer.
