Cranston police vehicle struck by driver early Sunday morning
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston police Chief Michael Winquist said that a police officer’s vehicle was struck while driving near Elmwood Avenue early Sunday morning.
According to Winquist the officer was responding to a high priority call for service around 2:30 a.m. on Park Avenue in a marked police SUV with lights and siren activated.
As the SUV approached the Elmwood Avenue intersection the traffic signal was red.
They reportedly slowed down as he went through the intersection, while another vehicle failed to yield and struck the police vehicle on the driver’s side door.
Winquist said both the police officer and the driver were transported to a local hospital and released.
He added that the Cranston Police Traffic Unit responded and is continuing to investigate.
