Cranston registered sex offender sentenced for child pornography

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A registered sex offender was sentenced to federal prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to child pornography charges, according to a statement from the office of Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.

David Hamlin, 43, of Cranston, will serve 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a charge of possession with intent to view child pornography.

He was arrested in April of 2024 for this offense.

Hamlin was previously charged in Rhode Island state court in 2016 and 2018 on child pornography charges.

He pleaded guilty in 2018 to transporting child pornography.

Hamlin’s most recent conviction is the result of Tampa, Florida FBI agents informing local counterparts of a cell phone registered to Hamlin being used to access an online platform.

This platform was being used to transfer child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to an undercover FBI employee.

Two cell phones were seized from Hamlin in April of 2024 after a court-authorized search, and forensic analysis of the devices confirmed the presence of multiple CSAM files.
