Cranston Western knocked out their first team Saturday night, to stay alive in the Little League World Series.  It was the team’s eighth elimination game. Locals ABC6 News spoke with, said they’re incredibly proud of their hometown heroes.

"I’m very proud of the team,” said Deena Liffmann.  “I live in Cranston, and I know in the past the teams have won. And I think it couldn’t be nicer."

Some watched the Cranston Western game from home.

"I love the way the coach handles the team,” commented Jim Phillips.

Others chose to venture out.  ABC6 was told that more than a thousand people went to Marchetti’s restaurant to watch the game.  Some local businesses hung banners from store windows.

Even some fans from out of town said they had been following the team’s success.

"I think it’s pretty amazing that they’re doing such a great job and putting themselves out there,” said Kristina Saunders.

Cranston was a city, marked with pride on Sunday, as the boys prepare for their next big game in the series.

"They’re a well–hitting team so, go all the way boys all the way,” said Phillips.

Cranston Western Little League will play the loser of the Texas – California game on Monday night at 8pm.
