Cranston teen charged in deadly May crash
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Cranston teenager faces multiple charges in connection to a fatal crash in May.
Police said an investigation found the 16-year-old driver was going 74 mph in a 25 mph zone before hitting another car head-on.
The crash happened on Pippin Orchard Road just after 10 p.m. on May 18.
A passenger in the car that was hit, 84-year-old Jack Safford of Florida, died of the injuries he sustained.
The 16-year-old driver, who has not been identified, is currently on home confinement with electronic monitoring and was ordered to surrender his driver’s license, police said.
He will face charges of driving to endanger resulting in death and driving to endanger resulting in physical injury in Rhode Island Family Court.
