WESTERLY, RI_ The Westerly Police Department investigates a vehicle crash that left two people injured.
On March 20, at 11:00 pm two men traveling on Route 78 crash and clip a street light pole.
When Police arrived at Ashaway Road they found a heavily damaged white Saturn, the two occupants of the vehicle were trapped and semi-conscious.
The driver and owner of the vehicle, Gregory Lessing, 46, of Ashaway, and his passenger Stanley Lessing were extricated and removed by the Westerly Fire Department and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
Officials were not able to tell if the crash was a result of driving under the influence.
Police can observe they were most likely traveling at a high rate of speed because when they clipped the pole it caused the street light to snap off and hang from the pole.
Stanley was issued a citation and the injuries suffered are unknown at this time.
