Crash involving Rhode Island State Police cruiser sends 5 to the hospital

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Five people were hospitalized after a crash involving a Rhode Island State Police cruiser on Sunday night.

State police said a cruiser was struck on Route 6 east near Atwood Avenue in Johnston around 9:20 p.m.

The cruiser was in the high speed lane and both vehicles ended up in the center median.

The agency said five people were brought to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries, including the trooper.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
