ABC6 has been tracking three fires that occurred Friday evening in East Providence, Woonsocket, and Coventry.
The Fire Marshall is investigating after a two-car garage was destroyed by fire at 129 Smith Street in East Providence. The fire was reported by East Providence Rescue as they were returning back to the station around 6 p.m. Officials say that the garage was fully involved upon arrival and is completely destroyed, as well as a vehicle that was inside. Crews were able to put out the flames around 9:20 p.m. and there were no injuries reported. The cause is still undetermined.
Not long after in Woonsocket, crews were sent to 40 Glendale Avenue where a 1-story ranch caught fire, just around 7 p.m. The Woonsocket Fire Department tells ABC6 it took them a long time to deal with the incident and there was a significant amount of damage. The homeowners were not home at the time and no firefighters were injured. The fire appeared to have started in the basement but the cause is still under investigation.
Around 8:20 p.m. in Coventry, crews were dispatched to 395 Knotty Oak Road for a fully involved garage fire that took over two hours to extinguish. Fire Chief Robert Warren says that the commercial building is made up of five garages but only one caught fire. He told ABC6 that the garage had just had mechanical work done inside. That garage and its contents, including one vehicle, were destroyed. There were no occupants inside at the time and there were no injuries. The Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause.
