HOG ISLAND, R.I. (WLNE) – The Portsmouth Fire Department battled flames at a boat house on Hog Island Thursday evening.

Assistant Chief Howard Tighe confirmed the department received multiple calls about a fire in the boat house around 5:05 p.m.

The boat house is used by Hog Island residents to store golf carts and other equipment. The second floor of the building is an apartment that is occupied during the summer.

Personnel from Newport, North Kingstown, and Warwick also responded to the scene.

The boat house is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
