NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- Crews helped a pilot whale who got stuck in Clark’s Cove Saturday afternoon.

The  whale swam into Clark’s Cove in New Bedford. Representative Antonio Cabral told the public to give the rescuers enough space to help the whale safely return to the water.

“Let’s hope all goes well and he gets back out to sea safely!” Cabral wrote.

According to NOAA’s website, pilot whales “live in stable groups of 15 to 30 animals comprised of close family relatives, and tend to live in localized, resident populations, although some populations have wider ranges.”

NOAA said the pilot whales “are found globally in tropical and temperate oceans.”
