Crews respond to a house fire in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- The New Bedford Fire Department responded to reports of a fire on Topham Street Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews on scene were able to confirm details with ABC6 News.

The family began to evacuate from the home once one woman smelled smoke and saw flames outside the house.

One dog had to be rescued from the house by firefighters.

The other two dogs, one cat, and two children evacuated safely.

The fire was knocked down with the house sustaining some damage to the side of the house. The family will not be displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
