NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Firefighters responded to a home on Sorrell Road for a hazmat incident in North Providence yesterday.

According to Fire Chief John Horan, a homeowner was using some cleaning products improperly which caused a chemical reaction.

Horan said the homeowner took some video and brought the video to one of our firehouses.

Firefighters and emergency personnel responded, and said they soon realized there was concentration of chlorine gas.

The on scene crews immediately called in hazmat which entered the home in full protective equipment and removed all the chemicals.

The house was then ventilated and deemed safe from the gas.

The homeowner and his family, including pets, were unharmed.

According to Horan, the homeowners will need professionals to assist in the cleanup because the process left behind some residue.
