Crews to prepare for Phase 2 of work on Newport Pell Bridge

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is approaching Phase 2 of work on the Pell Bridge.

Lane closures are currently in place from the Pell Bridge to the JT Connell Connector, however RIDOT will reopen the right lane on Route 138 today.

This week, electrical crews are installing fiber optic cables along the bridge.

RIDOT is cautioning that crews will be on the shoulders on Route 138 through Thursday, June 13.

Crews will also finalize the new dead-end section of Jalsey Street by paving asphalt from today, 7 a.m. until Friday at 4 p.m.
