Cumberland Community School to close Wednesday after ‘strong odor’ reported

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Cumberland Community School will remain closed Wednesday after a strong odor was reported in the building on Tuesday.
Officials say the cancellation comes after a construction company applied a paint product to the pavement outside the school, causing the strong odor.
Philip Thornton, the Superintendent of the Cumberland School Department said the school has verified that the product contains no VOCs and is commonly used when painting roadways.
The department said it is actively taking measures to address the odor and hopes to reopen the school on Thursday, October 12.
