Cumberland elementary school closed for second day in a row due to strong smell

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — The Community Elementary School in Cumberland will close for a second day in a row on Wednesday.

Staff members said they discovered strange odor in the building on Tuesday morning.

The cancellation came after a construction company applied a paint product to the pavement outside the school, causing the strong smell.

Superintendent Philip Thornton said the school verified that the smell does not contain any harmful chemicals.

Thornton hopes to reopen to school on Thursday.
