Cumberland, Hopkinton to unveil new green initiatives Tuesday
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee will be in Cumberland Tuesday afternoon to help unveil a new fleet of electric school buses, as well as Hopkinton for a Habitat for Humanity event.
Blackstone Valley Prep will deploy two dozen electric buses from Highland Electric Fleets.
Governor McKee will speak about the fleet before cutting the ribbon, and then take members of the media and other attendees for a ride on one of the buses.
The event is slated for noon at Durham School Services’ transportation depot in Cumberland.
New housing will open in Hopkinton Tuesday.
South County Habitat for Humanity built four homes, completing the seven house plot on Cardinal Lane.
All of the houses are built to achieve net zero energy ratings.
Governor McKee and house speaker Joseph Shekarchi will cut the ribbon on the houses, and highlight the future homeowners.
That ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
