Cumberland police search for suspect in deadly stabbing

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE) — Cumberland police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Saturday afternoon that led to the death of a 40-year-old man.
Chief Matthew Benson said that police responded to a residence on Front Street around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Once they arrived, they found Otis Diggs suffering from injuries that appeared similar to stab wounds.
Benson said that Diggs was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Benson said that witnesses are currently being interviewed and the stabbing does not appear to be a random act of violence.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Cumberland Police Department, I offer our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Mr. Diggs,” Benson said. “We will remain steadfast in our efforts and bring those responsible to justice.”
No one else was harmed during the incident.
