Curt Schilling speaking out about 38 Studios in radio interview

Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling spoke out on WEEI radio about the collapse of 38 Studios saying he was lied to.

"I thought Gordon Fox was the most honest guy I ever met. Now he’s in the pen. I got lied to,” Schilling told WEEI.

State Rep. Mike Chippendale has been investigating the failed $75 million deal for years on the House Oversight Committee. He says he agrees that Schilling was taken advantage of.

"Mr. Schilling definitely was taken for a ride by Rhode Island politics. He walked into something that he did not understand and he was chewed up and spit out by it,” said Chippendale.

The interview coming days after the SEC filed fraud charges against Wells Fargo and the state’s economic development agency.

The Chair of the House Oversight Committee believes that’s just the beginning. She wants Schilling to come and testify in an effort to get to the bottom of what actually went down.

"I think we are at a point that if he has answers that can help us move along certainly he is named in the lawsuit but he could come forward with some of those other details. He talks about being promised tax credits, who exactly promised him those tax credits?,” said State Rep. Karen MacBeth.

Schilling did not get into to many specifics in the radio interview. He did say he never imagined the company would fail… and that in hindsight he believes he was lied to, specifically pointing to former Governor Lincoln Chafee and his administration.

"Now it’s starting to come out that they did everything in their power to make sure that this went the way it went,” said Schilling.

We did reach out to Governor Chafee for comment, he did not wish to provide one.

The House Oversight Committee has tried to subpoena schilling to come before them to testify. So far those efforts have been unsuccessful because he is out of state. Schilling has said he can’t comment because of the on-going civil lawsuit.
