CVS pushes back against DOJ opioid lawsuit

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — CVS Pharmacy, based in Woonsocket, is responding to a Department of Justice opioid lawsuit.

Attorneys for CVS are requesting to have a majority of claims dismissed by a federal judge.

Officials have accused CVS of violating the Controlled Substances Act by purposely filling invalid prescriptions.

In a 45-page motion filed Tuesday, CVS lawyers said prosecutors never provided key facts, including the identities of the doctors who prescribed medication.

Prosecutors have until June 4 to file a response to the motion.
