NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday police are trying to find a New Bedford man and his two children.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Leon Mejia, who also goes by Leon Mejia-Vincente, is wanted in connection for rape and sexual abuse of a child.

The district attorney said Mejia was living in New Bedford with his two children — Hector and Petronila Mejia-Saquic, who are 5 and 17 years old respectively. Petronila is also known as Marta Saquic.

However, Quinn said he has since fled the city. Mejia and his children’s whereabouts are not known at this time. The children are considered to be “endangered.”

Anyone with information about Mejia or his children’s whereabouts should call New Bedford Police Det. Sasha Vincente at 508-971-8569 or the Massachusetts State Police 24-hour fugitive line at 800-527-8873.
