Dartmouth woman accused of embezzling from employer

BOSTON (WLNE) — A former employee of an industrial company in southeastern Massachusetts was charged with wire fraud, according to prosecutors.
Jasmyne Botelho, 41, of Dartmouth, is accused of playing a role in a scheme to embezzle more than $280,000 from her employer.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Botelho was released on conditions after appearing in federal court in Boston.
According to court documents, Botelho allegedly stole the money from September 2017 to April 2020. The documents say she directed payments allegedly intended for the company’s vendors to bank accounts she controlled and used company funds to make payments on personal credit cards and auto loans.
She is further accused of falsifying her employer’s books and records to make the payments look legitimate.
Prosecutors said the charge of wire fraud carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
