DCYF closes investigation on near fatality of 2-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Department of Children, Youth and Families said Friday they closed an investigation into the near fatality of a 2-year-old child.

The incident happened in March.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for DCYF, said the disclosure couldn’t occur until they finished their investigation, despite the incident occurring on March 13.

She added that the investigation found that the near fatality was because of maltreatment. The child’s family had prior involvement with the department.

The Office of the Child Advocate has also been notified of the report.

“Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information,” Teixeira said.
