DCYF discloses death of teen

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families disclosed the death of a 17-year-old on Monday.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the incident occurred on April 6.

Teixeira said DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information due to confidentiality laws.

The Office of the Child Advocate was notified of the case, according to DCYF.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect, per officials.
