DCYF discloses near death of 8-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) disclosed the near death of an eight-year-old on Wednesday.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the incident occurred on Jan. 29.

Teixeira said, because of confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.

The Office of the Child Advocate was notified of the case, according to DCYF.

Rhode Islanders are required by law to report cases of child abuse or neglect to DCYF within 24 hours of becoming aware of such abuse/neglect, per officials.
