DCYF discloses near fatality of 16-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families disclosed the near fatality of a 16-year-old on Saturday.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the incident occurred Oct. 4.

Teixeira added that DCYF was involved with the child’s family at the time.

The department received confirmation it was a near fatality on Oct. 5.

The Office of the Child Advocate has been notified.

Teixeira said because of “confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.”
