DCYF reports the death of a 4-month-old from Middletown in June

 MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – DCYF confirmed that a four-month-old boy died in June due to maltreatment.

Limited details are available about this case, but the boys family had prior involvement with the DCYF, but not his legal guardian at the time of his death. 

Middletown police say they responded to the Oxbow Farms Housing complex around 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10 for a report of an unresponsive four-month-old male baby. 

When rescue crews arrived they began CPR on the infant and transported him to Newport Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to police. 

According to the the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH), the cause of death was due to acute intoxication due to the combined effects of brompheniramine, diphenhydramine, dextro / methorphan, and ranitidine.

No names were released due to confidentiality laws. 

The Middletown Police Department, along with the Rhode Island Attorney Generals Office, Medical Examiner’s Office and DCYF continue to investigate the case.
