DCYF says maltreatment caused near-fatality of 2-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families says maltreatment was the cause for the near-fatality of a two-year-old child.

According to the DCYF, the near fatality happened on August 10, 2023, prompting the department to launch an investigation.

The family was not open to the department at the time of the near-fatality.

The DCYF has notified the Office of the Child Advocate of this report.

Due to confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.
