Deadly scene on 95 North near exit 23 causes significant delays to morning commute
Victim identified as 53-year-old Providence resident
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) – A deadly scene on 95 North near the State Offices exit caused significant delays to the morning commute backing up traffic throughout downtown Providence Thursday morning.
According to State Police, Alfronso Rodriguez, 53, who was last known to be living in Providence, was struck and killed on the highway.
An investigation from State Police revealed he was struck by oncoming traffic in the northbound travel lanes near exit 23.
Our ABC 6 crew observed State Police on the scene around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. About an hour later a medical examiner was also observed on the scene.
Traffic was limited to only the left lane for almost two hours as crews investigated the scene.
RIDOT says the scene cleared around 6:50 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
