Deborah Gonzalez sworn in as Central Falls Municipal Court judge
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) — A new judge was sworn in to the Central Falls Municipal Court on Tuesday.
At 11:30 a.m., Deborah Gonzalez was sworn in by Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera at City Hall, filling the position which has been open since January.
According to the City of Central Falls, Gonzalez is an immigration attorney, in which she has represented clients in immigration, family, and criminal courts for almost 20 years. She has also worked at Roger Williams University since 2012 as an Associate Professor of Law and the Director of the Immigration Clinic.
The city added she is the daughter of immigrants and speaks three languages, calling her a “trusted voice for Rhode Island’s immigrant communities.”
“Judge Gonzalez brings a wealth of legal knowledge, cultural understanding, and life experience to the bench that reflect the values of our city,” Mayor Rivera said. “In a community as diverse as Central Falls—where our residents speak many languages, come from many backgrounds, and carry many different stories—she brings a rare combination of legal expertise, compassion, and understanding that will make her an outstanding judge and a trusted figure in our Municipal Court.”
