Decent weather with a slow warming trend; Bret forms in Atlantic
Monday featured lots of clouds and cooler weather for Southern New England.
The reason? Cool air at our upper atmospheric levels. As the ground warmed up this morning, the air rapidly rose and caused abundant clouds.
We should see some sun on Tuesday, but there could also be a stray shower in spots.
Summer officially begins on Wednesday morning at 10:57, and while temperatures won’t exactly be summer like, it’s looking like a pleasant day with a mix of sun and clouds.
Temperatures will continue to warm for the first full days of summer, topping 80 by weeks end. However, humidity will also be rising as a slow-moving storm system approaches.
Both Saturday and Sunday look unsettled, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely each day.
That’s our weather at home, but we’re also keeping our eye on the tropics.
Tropical Storm Bret has formed way out in the Atlantic, along with another disturbance right behind it (designated ‘Invest 93-L by the NHC) which is fairly uncommon for June.
For this time of year, we typically see tropical systems form in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean. If they do form in the Atlantic, they tend to be near the Bahamas.
All signs point to the anomalous water temperatures in the Atlantic Basin. They are trending several degrees above normal, which is a driving factor for hurricane development.
The current track for Bret takes it in past the Lesser Antilles and in the vicinity of Puerto Rico by the end of the week. There is also a good chance it could form into our fist hurricane of the year.
