Defense rests case in Karen Read retrial
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Karen Read’s defense team has officially rested its case.
At the beginning of Wednesday’s testimony, one of the crash reconstructionists from ARCCA went through the granular details of his work on the case.
Jurors saw slides that show a frame-by-frame recreation of what a crash between Read’s Lexus SUV and a human body would look like, and how taillight fragments would fall off the vehicle.
Read spoke to the media outside the courtroom Wednesday and said she feels more confident in the defense’s case compared to the first trial.
“They don’t have any analysis and they don’t have any facts to present to Dr. Welcher so they’re done,” Read said. “I thought it was strong last year. It’s stronger yes. We just pulled more witnesses and laid out more of the case.”
Read chose not to testify in her defense.
She also said she feels good about the jury this time around.
Closing arguments are set to begin on June 13.
