Department of Health recalls select dog treats for potential Salmonella contamination

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health announced Monday that it recalled select dog treats due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The department said that Beg & Barker Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treats, Billo’s Best Friend Chicken Breast Strips Dog Treats, and Green Coast Pets Chicken Crisps Dog Treats distributed between June 8 and 22 could be contaminated.

“Salmonella can affect pets eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products,” said Joseph Wendelken, a spokesman for RIDOH.

Pets with a Salmonella infection may seem lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain.

Anyone who has bought the aforementioned products and has a pet that has gotten sick from them should email stormbergship@gmail.com.
